1920S – 1940S
Early days

From the very start, precision timekeeping has been in our DNA. Our founder Charles London, a self-taught clockmaker from Poland, emigrated to the U.S and established a business at the estates along Long Island's Gold Coast. He visited each client's home weekly to wind and maintain their 8-day clocks their clocks and offered watch and clock servicing on site. By 1926, he had opened a small shop in Glen Cove, where he performed repairs. Fast forward to the 1940s, when Charles’ daughter Fran married Mayer Udell – also a self-taught watchmaker – and the couple joined her family's business.

A LEAP OF FAITH

Fran and Mayer's son, Mark Udell, began working with his parents in the early ’70s. He and his wife Candy, who had also joined the family business, developed a keen interest in prestige timepiece brands, especially Rolex. Despite some initial hesitancy from his parents, the young couple knew it was the right move to bring Rolex to their established Long Island clientele. London Jewelers first allotment of timepieces from the brand sold out within days, and a long-lasting partnership was born.
